Renewable energy
In harmony with nature and local communities, we create renewable energy
Renewable Power for the Future
Power to build the future
Norway is in the midst of a new energy revolution – and renewable power is the key to both value creation and security. To safeguard jobs, create new industries, and keep electricity prices predictable, we must produce more power – quickly and responsibly.
«The situation we are facing is critical, and the demand for power is increasing dramatically. [...] The need for power is significant in all sectors, both existing and new, and highest in the industry.»
– The Energy Initiative, LO and NHO
Aneo is developing and constructing new power production where the resources are
– with wind and solar energy as part of the solution. We believe the key is to do it together. Together with nature, local communities, customers, and partners. Our role is to meet the needs of businesses and communities for renewable energy, while also strengthening supply security in an increasingly electrified society.
«The time until 2030 is short. Actions that need to be taken now cannot be postponed, even if they are challenging. The energy shift concerns us all, and everyone must contribute.»
– The Energy Initiative, LO and NHO
We are doing our part – for jobs, value creation, and a secure energy future.
Our Contribution (So Far)
Aneo is investing in new power projects to build, building to own, and owning to operate. Our ambition is to become a leading renewable player in the Nordic market.
Power system under pressure
Therefore, a major effort is needed now
For more than a hundred years, affordable and reliable power has been one of Norway's greatest competitive advantages. It started with hydropower, and it has served us well. Now it's time to truly embark on the next chapter. And it's urgent.
In 2022, Norway used 140 TWh of electricity, distributed across households, businesses, and industry. A survey indicates that an increase in annual electricity consumption of an additional 140 TWh has been reported or anticipated—essentially a doubling. Even if only a quarter of this is realized, there will still be a significant gap between the desired power consumption and the planned new power production.
"Capacity for new electricity consumption across the country is almost four times higher than the requested capacity for new power production."
Kraftløftet, 2024
Today, 2 out of 3 companies are denied internet connections. This doesn't just mean delayed development – it can mean lost jobs and postponed transition across the entire business sector. Even though Norway has an almost emissions-free energy mix, half of the energy we use is still fossil-based. How does that add up?
The explanation lies in the difference between power and energy. When we talk about power, we mean electricity – and in Norway, almost all electricity comes from hydropower and wind power. However, energy involves everything we use for heating, transportation, and industry – and here we are still using a lot of oil, diesel, and gas.
The business sector has significant needs moving forward, which involve electrical power in line with societal climate commitments. At the same time, much of the new production is weather-dependent and unpredictable. This challenges supply security, especially during periods of low wind or low solar irradiation.
We still have a national power surplus, but the margins are shrinking. To maintain the competitive edge that has made Norway an energy nation, we must both build more production, adopt flexible solutions, and make the best use of adjustable power. It’s about the whole system.
It's not a quick fix to address these challenges, but solutions do exist. Sun, wind, water, and energy efficiency must work together. This needs to happen at a pace that meets the demand, supported by policies and business development that are aligned.
At Aneo, our contribution is clear: We are developing new power generation with a focus on swift implementation, local value creation, and technology that contributes to a robust and future-oriented energy system.
Can we talk about energy efficiency?
We're glad you asked! At Aneo, we believe everything is interconnected. Therefore, we are expanding new renewable energy sources—because the demand is real—but we also believe that the most sustainable kilowatt-hour is the one not used unnecessarily.
Through several of our subsidiaries, we work to use energy more intelligently. This can involve charging electric vehicles when the load on the grid is lowest, reducing electricity consumption in grocery stores, or developing more energy-efficient solutions for the industry.
Efficiency and new production must go hand in hand. That's how we build a smarter energy system—together.
