Ice throw

Ice throw from wind turbines

Under certain combinations of temperature, humidity, and wind, ice can form on the wind turbines. This occurs primarily during the period from November through April, but it can also happen outside this period. In addition to ice, snow can also accumulate on the turbines.

Both ice and snow on the turbines can fall or be thrown from the turbine blades. The likelihood of being hit by falling or thrown material is low, but it still poses a risk of personal injury. The risk increases the closer one is to the turbine. During periods with ice and snow on the wind turbines, a safe distance from the turbines must therefore be maintained.

In Aneo’s wind farms, the following safety distances apply:

  • Bessakerfjellet

    150 meters

  • Frøya

    250 meters

  • Hundhammerfjellet

    250 meters

  • Roan

  • Skomakerfjellet

  • Stokkfjellet
