Norway's largest and fastest-growing provider of electric vehicle charging for housing cooperatives and condominiums, Aneo, is entering and establishing itself in Sweden.

The electric car wave is sweeping over Sweden, and now Aneo is entering the Swedish market, offering charging as a service to Swedish housing cooperatives and condominiums, as it has done in Norway, where Aneo is the largest player in charging services for housing cooperatives and condos. Since the company was founded four years ago, Aneo Mobility has signed agreements with 800 housing companies and today has 80,000 charging stations in Norway that are either built or under planning.

Aneo is now bringing the successful charging concept over the border, establishing Aneo Mobility Sweden, which will have its headquarters in Stockholm.

– Electric cars are rapidly entering the Swedish market, and Aneo has ambitions to be the first choice for housing cooperatives and condos here in Sweden as well. That's why we are now building a business in Stockholm, where we will have a range of new employees in place throughout the year, says the head of Aneo Mobility Norway, Stephan Juhl Nielsen.

Charging as a service

Aneo Mobility has had great success with its business model in Norway, and Juhl Nielsen believes that the time is now ripe to take the concept further into the Swedish market.

– The vehicle fleet in Sweden faces large-scale electrification in the coming years, and Aneo is ready to contribute with what we can, namely offering electric vehicle charging as a service for Swedish customers. In short, the concept is that the customer pays a fixed monthly fee to charge their car based on their needs. Aneo takes on the cost and responsibility for everything, for example, the installation, operation, and maintenance of the facility. Our concept is that we offer charging as a service to both housing cooperatives and the residents, says Juhl Nielsen.

Starting in the major cities

With approximately 10 million inhabitants, Sweden is the largest country in the Nordic region. Sweden lags behind Norway in terms of electric car share, but the share of chargeable vehicles, which currently accounts for about 10 percent of all passenger cars, is increasing rapidly. Forecasts for 2030 show that the share of chargeable vehicles in Sweden will have increased to 40 percent. In urban areas, the share of electric cars is higher than in the rest of the country, and in Stockholm, the percentage of chargeable cars is expected to be 49 percent by 2030. The proportion of housing cooperatives and condos is also significantly higher in Sweden than in Norway.

– We want to be present where growth and the demand for electric vehicle charging are greatest and will initially focus on the cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, and the surrounding areas, says the newly appointed head of Aneo Mobility in Sweden, Margareta Törnblad.

By choosing electric vehicle charging as a service, it is easy for all housing cooperatives and condos to offer their residents charging without the housing cooperative or condo itself having to invest in establishment and operation. The technological risk is also avoided.

- The service concept has worked very well in Norway, and it will be exciting to offer housing cooperatives in Sweden the same opportunity, continues Törnblad.

More renewable energy

Aneo is already established in Sweden through owning two wind farms in Grimsås and Brännliden, which were bought earlier this year. Together with Sunnagruppen, Aneo is now developing a large-scale solar park outside Gislaved in Jönköping County. The facility is expected to produce electricity in the second half of 2023.

– When we are involved in electrification in Sweden, it is natural for us to also contribute to the production of renewable energy to meet the growing demand for clean energy, says Stephan Juhl Nielsen.
