Aneo Retail takes over all freezers and refrigerated counters for Coop Innlandet
Press Release
Mar 19, 2024
Coop Innlandet, as one of the first major players in the Nordics, has outsourced both ownership and operational responsibility for all the refrigeration and freezer counters in each of its 40 stores.
From now on, it is the energy specialist Aneo Retail that will own, operate, and manage the temperatures in the cooling and freezing sections of all Coop Innlandet stores. Aneo Retail will also take over responsibility for the ventilation system and temperature in all the stores through its full-service concept "Energy as a Service." Everything will now be controlled and monitored from Aneo Retail's control center in Gjøvik, to achieve the most efficient use of energy and resources possible.
Significant Savings
- We are proud to announce that we have signed a long-term and holistic agreement with Coop Innlandet. The agreement means that we have assumed both ownership and operational responsibility for ventilation, cooling, and freezing systems in all Coop stores in Innlandet. Together, we will ensure that all these stores get energy-efficient and sustainable solutions, including cooling systems with natural refrigerants. This will result in significant cost savings for Coop, while also reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 1 million tons per year, says Morten Stensli, Managing Director of Aneo Retail.
Saves Money and the Environment
Until now, it has been common for stores and chains to own all the technical equipment in the store – and operate it themselves. Coop Innlandet employees are now relieved of this responsibility and can dedicate all their time to running the store, selling goods, and serving customers. If a fault occurs, it is Aneo Retail's responsibility to rectify it.
- By choosing Aneo Retail's "Energy as a Service" concept, we no longer need to tie up so much capital in technical equipment; we gain better operational predictability and lower energy costs. The benefits are many for us, says Laila Hulleberg, CFO of Coop Innlandet.
Energy Consumers
The grocery industry is an energy consumer, using around 2.5 tWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the annual consumption of about 125,000 households. Individual stores' energy reductions and optimization of the store's energy use, which Aneo Retail offers, is therefore significant for the total energy consumption in Norway. Many of today's cooling installations in stores also contain large amounts of F-gases, while new systems are much more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
Environment Taken Seriously
Coop Innlandet is one of the first in the Nordic grocery sector to hand over both ownership and responsibility for all cooling, freezing, and ventilation to a third party.
- We view Coop Innlandet as a business that truly takes the environment and sustainability seriously. We must commend forward-thinking management that is not afraid to adopt new technology and sees the value in new business concepts. We thank Coop Innlandet for the trust they have shown us, and we genuinely look forward to a good and long-term partnership, says Morten Stensli of Aneo Retail.
While Coop saves large sums, society benefits from reduced energy consumption and climate emissions through more efficient use of energy and resources.
- The operation of cooling systems under Aneo Retail can be compared to how the best Formula 1 teams monitor, adjust, and fine-tune equipment and techniques race after race, lap after lap, to achieve the optimal result, says Morten Stensli.
Facts
Aneo Retail is a relatively new company that was established in June 2020 when three companies involved in consulting, energy management, and energy monitoring were acquired by TrønderEnergi and merged into one large professional environment in Ohmia Retail. In connection with the establishment of Aneo, Ohmia Retail changed its name to Aneo Retail. The company is headquartered in Gjøvik, but also has an office in Stockholm (and is involved in some Swedish grocery stores) and has just been established in Denmark. Aneo currently operates approximately 500 stores in the Nordic region, with the ambition to increase the portfolio to 4000 stores by 2027.
