The renewable energy group Aneo is purchasing two Swedish wind farms for just over 1 billion NOK. This investment marks Aneo's first venture into new energy production outside of Norway.
Last summer, TrønderEnergi and HitecVision established the new Nordic renewable energy company Aneo. The company aims to increase wind power production by 10 to 12 TWh (terawatt-hours) by 2030. This corresponds to about eight percent of Norway's current power production. Aneo is therefore seeking projects throughout the Nordic region, and the first major agreement for the purchase of renewable energy production is now a reality.
- We have entered into an agreement to buy the Grimsås and Brännliden wind farms in Sweden. The purchase represents an increase of nearly 30 percent in Aneo's ownership of wind power production and is an important first step in establishing Aneo as a fully integrated wind energy player in Sweden. Sweden will be an important market for us, says Kari Skeidsvoll Moe, Executive Vice President for Growth in Renewable Energy at Aneo.
Power for 18,000 households
Aneo is purchasing the two Swedish wind farms from the investment fund Marguerite. The purchase agreement is valued at just over 1 billion kronor. The total production of the wind farms at 285 GWh (gigawatt-hours) corresponds to the consumption of approximately 18,000 Swedish households.
- Aneo has contributed significantly to wind power in Norway and has the same ambition in Sweden. Aneo aims to be an innovative and reliable partner for all who want to contribute to the energy transition in the Nordic region, says Skeidsvoll Moe.
Increased renewable capacity
While the Grimsås wind farm is located in the municipality of Tranemo in Västergötland, southern Sweden, the Brännliden wind farm is outside Storträsk in Skellefteå, northern Sweden. The two wind farms have a total of 23 wind turbines.
- Marguerite's goal when entering the Swedish production market in 2018 was to increase renewable capacity. We are pleased to have participated in the decarbonization of the electricity system through the construction and production of these two onshore wind farms, says Guillaume Rivron, Partner at Marguerite.
Facilitating change
Aneo, which initially has an investment capacity of 15 to 20 billion kronor, aims to contribute to power development, electrification, and energy efficiency throughout the Nordic region and ensure that the necessary energy transition is profitable for customers, society, and owners. The bulk of new investments will be directed towards new power production in wind and solar energy. Many of these investments may take place outside Norway's borders if the government's proposal for a new tax regime for wind power in Norway is enacted.
- To succeed with our growth ambitions, we depend on reasonable framework conditions. We note that Swedish authorities have consistently focused on facilitating wind power through stable and predictable frameworks. This makes Sweden an attractive market for us, says Ståle Gjersvold, CEO at Aneo.
Broadening in Sweden
Last year, Aneo established an office with its own employees in Stockholm and has significant ambitions for further growth in Sweden within areas such as electric vehicle charging, emission-free construction sites, and energy efficiency in supermarkets and industries. Aneo is already involved in 43 Swedish supermarkets, where the company provides energy efficiency services. Aneo also owns 36.5 percent of the publicly listed Scandinavian Biogas and 23 percent of Sunna Group (solar power) headquartered in Åre.
About the wind farms
Brännliden wind farm (commissioned in 2018) in Skellefteå and Grimsås wind farm (commissioned in 2020) in Tranemo have 10 Vestas turbines (V136 - 4.2 MW) and 13 Siemens turbines (SG 3.6-130), respectively, and are located in price areas SE1 and SE3. The two parks have an installed capacity of 42 and 47 megawatts (MW), respectively, and a combined normal production of approximately 285 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually. Both parks are somewhat smaller compared to Frøya wind farm, with its 14 turbines and an annual production of about 200 GWh.
About Aneo
Aneo aims to contribute to power development, electrification, and energy efficiency so that the necessary energy transition becomes profitable for our customers, society, and owners.
After the investment in Sweden, Aneo owns and operates a total of 16 wind farms and 431 wind turbines. Following the acquisition in Sweden, Aneo owns, operates, and manages a total of 9.3 TWh, including Norwegian and Swedish renewable energy, of which 1.3 TWh is self-owned wind power production.
